In this original pencil study, Mark Bodé explores character design for Colbolt 60, the post-apocalyptic antihero co-created by his father, Vaughn Bodé. With sharp, stylized linework and a focus on expression, gear, and body language, Bodé maps out the gritty silhouette of his mutant enforcer—complete with a sawtooth knife, snub-nose revolver, and vapor carbine. Signed and dated 2020, the drawing offers a rare look into the development process of one of underground comics’ most enduring legacies. Raw, technical, and full of attitude.

About The Artist

Mark Bodē (b. 1963) is both heir and innovator. Carrying forward his father Vaughn’s creative flame, Mark has taken the Bodē universe from underground zines to massive murals around the world. His art is instantly recognizable: lizards with attitude, wizards with secrets, colors that slap. Mark bridges comic art, tattoo culture, and graffiti, creating work that’s both nostalgic and next-level. In summer 2024, Mania presented Aerosol Anomalies (July 27–September 7), a two-man exhibition with Dr. Revolt that brought Bodē’s iconic characters to life on canvas and concrete. We celebrate Mark as a living legend—an artist who honors legacy while pushing the Bodē lineage into bold new territory.
