In Ripples, Mark Bodé merges his signature fantasy style with urban material, painting directly onto a recycled New York City subway map. A nude figure swims through the layered blue-green surface, framed by lily pads and soft, cartoon-like ripples that blur the line between water and paper. Her oversized eyes, plant crown, and serene expression evoke both innocence and seduction—hallmarks of Bodé’s world-building. The map beneath serves as a subtle reminder of transit, routine, and the undercurrent of city life—disrupted here by a quiet, imagined escape. About The Artist

Mark Bodē (b. 1963) is both heir and innovator. Carrying forward his father Vaughn’s creative flame, Mark has taken the Bodē universe from underground zines to massive murals around the world. His art is instantly recognizable: lizards with attitude, wizards with secrets, colors that slap. Mark bridges comic art, tattoo culture, and graffiti, creating work that’s both nostalgic and next-level. In summer 2024, Mania presented Aerosol Anomalies (July 27–September 7), a two-man exhibition with Dr. Revolt that brought Bodē’s iconic characters to life on canvas and concrete. We celebrate Mark as a living legend—an artist who honors legacy while pushing the Bodē lineage into bold new territory.
