Part of Monk.E’s compelling series The Shadow We Cast, this artwork explores the nuanced tension between identity and ego as informed by lived experiences. The play of shadow and light symbolizes internal conflict and self-reflection, inspired by Monk.E’s friend, a rapper based in Uganda. Featured at Raconteur, Monk.E’s solo exhibition at Mania Contemporary, October 5 – November 16, 2024.
About The Artist
Monk.E (b. 1981) is a lyrical architect—equal parts poet, painter, and prophet. Born from the Montréal hip hop underground, his voice carries weight on the mic and on the wall. His murals are meditative, spiritual, and street-savvy all at once—layering ancestral symbology with wildstyle geometry and multilingual verse. Whether freestyling live or painting massive walls, Monk.E speaks truth in every medium. In fall 2024, Mania presented Raconteur (October 5–November 16), a solo exhibition that explored narrative, identity, and the sacred through canvas, sound, and spray. We recognize Monk.E as a cultural force—rooted in resistance, elevated by rhythm, and guided by vision.
